making gods eyes

well how cool was it making gods eyes with little nicki (nicole valentine) at Megan Mortons school.
Nicki is a fabulously beautiful talented young lady (with a super cool pom pom dress) and we were lucky enough for her to teach our kids how to make Gods eyes (Ojo de Dios ) a really cool craft with yarn weaving.

"The Ojo de Dios or God's eye is a ritual tool, magical object, and cultural symbol evoking the weaving motif and its spiritual associations. For the Huichol peoples of western Mexico, the God's Eye is symbolic of the power of seeing and understanding that which is unknown and unknowable, The Mystery. The four points represent the elemental processes earth, fire, air, and water." (Wikipedia)

It was quite amazing that the children sat for 2 hours without moving and so intrenched in the weaving process. The adults were having just as much fun enjoying sitting weaving, designing, changing colours, making pom poms, adding flowers and trinkets to these fab little objects. It is super cool and if you get the opportunity try to do a class cause it really is SUPER FUN! and the fabulous cup cakes for morning tea were an added bonus.
My little ones really enjoyed the workshop and are excited about making more, first thing monday morning im off to spotlight to buy some more yarn and supplies for this addictive craft!!
You can find Nicki is doing another class at the school:
